Why Do British Charities Want To Shut Down Private Schools In Africa?
Why would anyone who claims to care about the world’s poorest children try to shut down their schools? It’s strange and sad, but several British charities, in cahoots with some British unions, are making a concerted effort to close down hundreds of schools in Africa. They are doing this because they dislike private education, seeming not to care that this will destroy the life chances of thousands of desperate children, forcing them, at best, into state schools where the teachers are often absent, drunk or incapable.

The campaign involves not only an alphabet soup of left-leaning charities from ActionAid to Amnesty International but also Unison and the National Union of Teachers  (NUT). Their attacks are directed at Bridge International Academies, a private company backed by, among others, Bill Gates and the British government.

If Bridge set up bad schools that failed African pupils, the campaign would make sense. But it doesn’t. Bridge schools are good and improving education.

Founded by an American husband and wife about a decade ago, Bridge started with a single pilot project in a Nairobi slum and has grown to 600 schools across Kenya, three other African countries and India. Simply built and painted green, the schools are now a familiar sight in the poorest areas. Bridge makes no secret of its aim to one day make a profit by charging fees, albeit very low, but it will reach that stage only when it has grown its student population from the current 100,000 to half a million. The Bridge dream is to one day educate 10 million children.

I visited a Bridge school in the slums of Gilgil in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Gilgil is a mess of rusty tin shacks, open sewers and stinking rubbish. The parents I met were all desperately poor, but equally desperate that their children should be better off. I spoke to a man called Charles Maina, whose daughter had graduated from the school. He just about survives by selling potatoes in the local markets, yet despite their circumstances, he and his wife had spurned the local government primary school because it did not offer a good enough education for their daughter, Anne. Instead, they often went hungry to send her to the Bridge school where she scored high marks in her examinations, went on to a top secondary school and now dreams of becoming a doctor. Asha Said, another Bridge parent, is a hairdresser in a slum salon. ‘The teachers here are better than in a government school,’ she told me.

Inside the Bridge classrooms I visited, teachers conducted lessons on a Kindle-like electronic device using the national curriculum. The teaching is entirely scripted and transmitted from a central office in Nairobi. The students appeared engaged, the teachers attentive, and at least twice a day Bridge’s central offices monitor the performances of every student, classroom and teacher.

All Kenyans I spoke to about Bridge told me the schools enjoy an excellent reputation. Poor parents are keen to send their children to one if they can afford the fees — just over £60 a year. In the countries where it has set up business, nobody disputes that Bridge’s exam results are consistently better than those of children from state-run schools.

Yet a caucus of charities and unions — many of them UK-funded — is determined to shut these schools down. In a recent letter to Bridge’s investors, it urged them to ‘exit in the shortest possible time from their investments [and make] no further financing commitments’. It accused Bridge of a ‘lack of transparency, poor labour conditions and non-respect of the rule of law’.

David Archer, a senior official at Action Aid, told me Bridge was a ‘clever American con trick’ motivated by the founders’ ‘ego’. Sylvain Aubry, another campaigner, condemned Bridge as purely commercial in its aims. He described the schools as illegal and posing a ‘threat to the fabric of society’.

Bridge’s adversaries gave me a litany of their crimes across continents — human rights abuses, health and safety violations — but across 600 schools, very few had led to a conviction or even a fine and none for serious offences. Most of the allegations were preposterous. One was a claim that Bridge violates the ‘sovereignty’ of African countries like Uganda. Uganda’s education minister, Janet Museveni, the wife of the strongman Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled his benighted country for 32 years, has ordered all 63 Bridge schools in the country closed. Her government alleges Bridge schools teach pornography and ‘convey the gospel of homosexuality’. Bridge dismisses these claims.

Bridge’s opponents claim that pupils in Uganda can simply walk across the street and enrol in government schools. ‘There is no evidence that Bridge has improved access to education,’ Archer told me. ‘If they were closed it would make no difference,’ said Aubry. Yet recently crowds of Bridge families took to Uganda’s streets, asking the government where they should send their children when the schools close, because in Uganda some 700,000 children are believed to be out of school.

In a report on UK aid for overseas education compiled last year by Britain’s parliamentary International Development Committee, Uganda’s legendary homophobia got no mention. Instead, the committee, headed by Labour MP Stephen Twigg, described the UK’s support for Bridge schools as ‘controversial’, while endorsing the expansion of aid to state schools overseas.

Archer says Bridge aims to lure talented children away from state schools in order to boost their exam scores. He also told me that although Bridge children did not come from the very poorest families, they still faced sacrifices to cover Bridge fees. From what I have seen, this is true — but the fact that a poor African family values its children’s education above anything else is surely admirable.

Education International is a global coalition of unions of which the NUT is a member. It is a leading attacker of Bridge, and its core policy is to oppose the privatisation of schooling. These organisations stick unstintingly to the line that privatisation of education in Africa is evil because it saps the will of governments to make their state school systems function properly.

On Twitter in February this year, Winnie Byanyima, the global executive director of Oxfam (and a Ugandan), praised Museveni's government for closing down Bridge schools. ‘Well done,’ she gloated, claiming the company’s schools ‘take advantage of poor people by offering low-quality education leading kids nowhere’.

In private, Byanyima apparently believes the opposite. In October 2015 she wrote an email, which I have seen, in which she conceded that ‘Bridge and other low-cost private schools are … delivering education where public schools are — or are perceived to be — low quality’. This, she accepted, was due to ‘unacceptable failures of public policy, the result of political and financial neglect of public education’.

While Byanyima celebrates the closure of private schools for the poor in her homeland, she had no problem with sending her own son, Anselm, to the elite US Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut. Ugandan media photographed Anselm puffing on a Toro Grande-sized cigar at his school graduation last year. One box of his Montecristos would cover the annual fees for two poor Ugandan children to attend a Bridge school.

With cruel hypocrisy, Byanyima and our own education activists argue that the way forward is to tell African governments to build more state schools, train more teachers and deliver better education services. They are hoping African governments will suddenly see the light: they will cease looting state coffers and purchasing fighter-bomber aircraft and invest in state schools instead. But after decades of failure, there is no evidence that schools are the top priority for African governments.

And while they try to close down Bridge schools, these are ever more needed. Even now in my home district of Laikipia County in Kenya, nearly half the boys from semi-nomadic families are sent out to herd cattle at the age of seven. At 13, the chances are that a girl will not be staring at a blackboard but at the knife about to circumcise her before she is married off to a much older man. Globally, more than 250 million children never see the inside of a classroom, the majority of them in sub-Saharan Africa. Among those who do, the majority of African children will fail to learn basic reading or arithmetic because many state-school teachers in Africa collect their salaries but do not bother to go to work.

A recent American study of African education found that ‘no public primary schools in these countries offer adequate quality education’. A few years ago, the UK’s main aid watchdog criticised British aid to education in African countries as ‘poor value for money’ because not enough had been done to prevent ‘a large majority of pupils failing to attain basic levels of literacy or numeracy’.

Things will get tougher. Thirty years from now, one quarter of all humans will be in Africa. To keep up with the number of new children reaching school age in Kenya, we will need to build hundreds, if not thousands, of new schools each year.

Low-Cost Private Schools Are Transforming Lives In The Third World
Private schools in the United Kingdom are affordable only to those on the highest incomes. But surprisingly to many, this is not true across developing countries, where low-cost private schools are ubiquitous and affordable to all.

For nearly two decades I’ve been researching this phenomenon. I’ve visited low-cost private schools in more than 20 countries, from the vibrant slums of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia to remote mountain villages in South-east Asia and the gang-dominated barrios of Central and Latin America.

It truly is a global phenomenon, serving huge numbers of children. In Lagos State, Nigeria, alone, there are an estimated 14,000 low-cost private schools, serving two million children. In the slums of Monrovia, Liberia, enrolment in low-cost private schools is over 70 per cent — the same level that is common across urban sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. In India, there are an estimated 400,000 low-cost private schools, serving 30 per cent of the rural population as well as the 70 per cent in urban areas. Why?

Poor parents are discerning, wanting schools that are accountable to them, with high standards and good discipline. They typically won’t find that in government schools, which are largely dysfunctional. Teachers often don’t turn up, and if they do, they don’t teach.

Poor parents don’t acquiesce in this. They vote with their feet, and entrepreneurs respond by setting up low-cost private schools. All this has deeply upset development experts and international teaching unions. The uppity poor taking control of their own lives? That means they’re eschewing 70 years of development consensus since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Human rights or no, poor parents aren’t listening to the experts. And it turns out they know best. Testing random samples of children, controlling for background variables, shows children in low-cost private schools doing significantly better than those in government schools. Moreover, private schools are affordable even to those on the poverty line: typically, poor parents can find schools that won’t require them to spend more than 10 per cent of their income on fees for all their children.

It’s a misnomer in any case to think that government schools are free: parents still have to pay for uniform, shoes, books and transport. The price for a parent of sending a child to a low-cost private school might be only a third higher than the cost of a government school, taking these additional expenses into account.

Some governments see these schools as a threat. I recently visited Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria, to discuss with the education commissioner whether closing 2,000 low-cost private schools was a good idea. Where would he put the 400,000 children thrown out of school if this were the case? Could his state afford the extra places?

And in India, the Right to Education Act — an Orwellian name for a piece of legislation if ever there was one — has led to the closure of thousands of low-cost private schools. One government official in Punjab nonchalantly told me ‘India is a big country’ when I asked him about the nearly half a million children pushed out of schools their parents had chosen. Somehow I was meant to infer that this many children didn’t really count in a country as populous as India.

It’s not just governments that are trying to shut down these schools. As Aidan Hartley says, teaching unions have set themselves against Bridge International Academies, the largest chain of low-cost private schools in the world. One of the unions’ criticisms is that because lessons are scripted in Bridge, as in other chains (including the one in Ghana of which I am chairman), teacher professionalism is being undermined. Is it really?

The only complaint one could legitimately make about Bridge is that it’s in competition with existing low-cost private schools. But competition is good for the children — and that’s what should concern educators the most.

Low-cost private schools provide the only realistic prospect of educating the world’s poor. No one envisages that government schools can be put right in the medium term. It’s time the left’s ugly campaign against the legitimate educational choices of poor families was brought to an end.

How the Left Exploits Ignorance
There is a huge literature that tries to explain the disparities between different racial groups, especially between blacks and whites. The most popular titles blame geography and conquest. Unfortunately, their ideas blend together in the public consciousness and create an inaccurate view of history that portrays the population of sub-Saharan Africa as victims. In my experience teaching secondary and post-secondary history, a majority of students have trouble putting events within an era or epoch. The result is a hodgepodge of fantastic narratives, memes, and baseless arguments.

When an instructor begins a course, he needs to evaluate the knowledge of new students. Today’s students cannot correctly place the Civil War, World War I, or World War II within 50 years of their actual occurrence. Needless to say, they are hopeless with subject matter of greater antiquity. The result is that students do not understand cause and effect. Even those who have learned an adequate amount of material have learned it in unrelated pieces, without understanding their impact on other events.

Part of the problem is that so many learn history from documentary films; they do not read books. Some teachers are no better. A fellow graduate student once told me how excited she was to teach her class Howard Zinn's A People’s History of the United States. I asked her about the merits of the book and probed to see what other reading she had done. To my amazement, she admitted that Prof. Zinn’s book was the only history book that she had ever read. She could not even name another historian.

Zinn’s anti-white book is widely used, but even Stanford University has an article on its biases. Any serious historian who has read it would find it laughable. For example, it assumes the American colonists were anti-Indian because of simple racism. In fact, in King Philip’s War, which broke out just 55 years after the Mayflower arrived, tribal animosities were the main cause. The colonists aligned themselves with the Mohegans, Pequots and Mohawks against the Wampanoag, Nipmuc, and Narragansetts.

The Code of Hammurabi is a well-preserved Babylonian code of law of ancient Mesopotamia, dating back to about 1754 BC (Middle Chronology). It is one of the oldest deciphered writings of significant length in the world. The sixth Babylonian king, Hammurabi, enacted the code, and partial copies exist on a 2.25 metre (7.5 ft) stone stele and consists of 282 laws, with scaled punishments, adjusting "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" (lex talionis)[1] as graded depending on social status, of slave versus free man or woman.[2]

Nearly one-half of the code deals with matters of contract, establishing, for example, the wages to be paid to an ox driver or a surgeon. Other provisions set the terms of a transaction, establishing the liability of a builder for a house that collapses, for example, or property that is damaged while left in the care of another. A third of the code addresses issues concerning household and family relationships such as inheritance, divorce, paternity, and sexual behavior. Only one provision appears to impose obligations on an official; this provision establishes that a judge who reaches an incorrect decision is to be fined and removed from the bench permanently.[3] A few provisions address issues related to military service.

The code was discovered by modern archaeologists in 1901, and its editio princeps translation published in 1902 by Jean-Vincent Scheil. This nearly complete example of the code is carved into a basalt stele in the shape of a huge index finger,[4] 2.25 m (7.4 ft) tall. The code is inscribed in the Akkadian language, using cuneiform script carved into the stele. (/ˈkrt/ KRY-toh or /ˈkrt/ KREE-toh; Ancient Greek: Κρίτων [krítɔːn]) is a dialogue by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. It depicts a conversation between Socrates and his wealthy friend Crito regarding justice (δικαιοσύνη), injustice (ἀδικία), and the appropriate response to injustice. Socrates thinks that injustice may not be answered with injustice, and refuses Crito's offer to finance his escape from prison. The dialogue contains an ancient statement of the social contract theory of government.

The dialogue takes place in Socrates' prison cell, where he awaits execution. He is visited before dawn by his old friend Crito, who has made arrangements to smuggle Socrates out of prison to the safety of exile. Socrates seems quite willing to await his imminent execution, and so Crito presents as many arguments as he can in order to persuade Socrates to escape. On a practical level, Socrates' death will reflect badly on his friends--people will think they did nothing to try to save him. Also, Socrates should not worry about the risk or the financial cost to his friends; these they are willing to pay, and they have also arranged to find Socrates a pleasant life in exile. On a more ethical level, Crito presents two more pressing arguments: first, if he stayed, he would be aiding his enemies in wronging him unjustly, and would thus be acting unjustly himself; and second, that he would be abandoning his sons and leaving them without a father.

Socrates answers first that one should not worry about public opinion, but only listen to wise and expert advice. Crito should not worry about how his, Socrates', or others' reputations may fare in the general esteem: they should only concern themselves with behaving well. The only question at hand is whether or not it would be just for Socrates to attempt an escape. If it is just, he will go with Crito, if it is unjust, he must remain in prison and face death.

At this point, Socrates introduces the voice of the Laws of Athens, which speaks to him and proceeds to explain why it would be unjust for him to leave his cell. Since the Laws exist as one entity, to break one would be to break them all, and in doing so, Socrates would cause them great harm. The citizen is bound to the Laws like a child is bound to a parent, and so to go against the Laws would be like striking a parent. Rather than simply break the Laws and escape, Socrates should try to persuade the Laws to let him go. These Laws present the citizen's duty to them in the form of a kind of social contract. By choosing to live in Athens, a citizen is implicitly endorsing the Laws, and is willing to abide by them. Socrates, more than most, should be in accord with this contract, as he has lived a happy seventy years fully content with the Athenian way of life.

If Socrates were to break from prison now, having so consistently validated the social contract, he would be making himself an outlaw who would not be welcome in any other civilized state for the rest of his life. And when he dies, he will be harshly judged in the underworld for behaving unjustly toward his city's laws. Thus, Socrates convinces Crito that it would be better not to attempt an escape.

Undoing The Dis-Education Of Millennials

I teach in a law school. For several years now my students have been mostly Millennials. Contrary to stereotype, I have found that the vast majority of them want to learn. But true to stereotype, I increasingly find that most of them cannot think, don’t know very much, and are enslaved to their appetites and feelings. Their minds are held hostage in a prison fashioned by elite culture and their undergraduate professors.

They cannot learn until their minds are freed from that prison. This year in my Foundations of Law course for first-year law students, I found my students especially impervious to the ancient wisdom of foundational texts, such as Plato’s Crito and the Code of Hammurabi. Many of them were quick to dismiss unfamiliar ideas as “classist” and “racist,” and thus unable to engage with those ideas on the merits. So, a couple of weeks into the semester, I decided to lay down some ground rules. I gave them these rules just before beginning our annual unit on legal reasoning.

Here is the speech I gave them.


Before I can teach you how to reason, I must first teach you how to rid yourself of unreason. For many of you have not yet been educated. You have been dis-educated. To put it bluntly, you have been indoctrinated. Before you learn how to think you must first learn how to stop unthinking.

Reasoning requires you to understand truth claims, even truth claims that you think are false or bad or just icky. Most of you have been taught to label things with various “isms” which prevent you from understanding claims you find uncomfortable or difficult.

Reasoning requires correct judgment.  Judgment involves making distinctions, discriminating. Most of you have been taught how to avoid critical, evaluative judgments by appealing to simplistic terms such as “diversity” and “equality.”

Reasoning requires you to understand the difference between true and false. And reasoning requires coherence and logic. Most of you have been taught to embrace incoherence and illogic. You have learned to associate truth with your subjective feelings, which are neither true nor false but only yours, and which are constantly changeful.

We will have to pull out all of the weeds in your mind as we come across them. Unfortunately, your mind is full of weeds, and this will be a very painful experience. But it is strictly necessary if anything useful, good, and fruitful is to be planted in your head.

There is no formula for this. Each of you has different weeds, and so we will need to take this on the case-by-case basis. But there are a few weeds that infect nearly all of your brains. So I am going to pull them out now.

First, except when describing an ideology, you are not to use a word that ends in “ism.” Communism, socialism, Nazism, and capitalism are established concepts in history and the social sciences, and those terms can often be used fruitfully to gain knowledge and promote understanding. “Classism,” “sexism,” “materialism,” “cisgenderism,” and (yes) even racism are generally not used as meaningful or productive terms, at least as you have been taught to use them. Most of the time, they do not promote understanding.

In fact, “isms” prevent you from learning. You have been taught to slap an “ism” on things that you do not understand, or that make you feel uncomfortable, or that make you uncomfortable because you do not understand them. But slapping a label on the box without first opening the box and examining its contents is a form of cheating. Worse, it prevents you from discovering the treasures hidden inside the box. For example, when we discussed the Code of Hammurabi, some of you wanted to slap labels on what you read which enabled you to convince yourself that you had nothing to learn from ancient Babylonians. But when we peeled off the labels and looked carefully inside the box, we discovered several surprising truths. In fact, we discovered that Hammurabi still has a lot to teach us today.

One of the falsehoods that has been stuffed into your brain and pounded into place is that Moral knowledge progresses inevitably, such that later generations are morally and intellectually superior to earlier generations, and that the older the source the more morally suspect that source is. There is a term for that. It is called chronological snobbery. Or, to use a term that you might understand more easily, “ageism.”

Second, you have been taught to resort to two moral values above all others, diversity and equality. These are important values if properly understood. But the way most of you have been taught to understand them makes you irrational, unreasoning. For you have been taught that we must have as much diversity as possible and that equality means that everyone must be made equal. But equal simply means the same. To say that 2+2 equals 4 is to say that 2+2 is numerically the same as four. And diversity simply means difference. So when you say that we should have diversity and equality you are saying we should have difference and sameness. That is incoherent, by itself. Two things cannot be different and the same at the same time in the same way.

Furthermore, diversity and equality are not the most important values. In fact, neither diversity nor equality is valuable at all in its own right. Some diversity is bad. For example, if slavery is inherently wrong, as I suspect we all think it is, then a diversity of views about the morality of slavery is worse than complete agreement that slavery is wrong.

Similarly, equality is not to be desired for its own sake. Nobody is equal in all respects. We are all different, which is to say that we are all not the same, which is to say that we are unequal in many ways. And that is generally a good thing. But it is not always a good thing (see the previous remarks about diversity).

Related to this:  You do not know what the word “fair” means. [ See Fair versus Unfair or Words as Propaganda Tools generally - Editor ] It does not just mean equality. Nor does it mean something you do not like. For now, you will have to take my word for this. But we will examine fairness from time to time throughout this semester.

Third, you should not bother to tell us how you feel about a topic. Tell us what you think about it. If you can’t think yet, that’s O.K.. Tell us what Aristotle thinks, or Hammurabi thinks, or H. L. A. Hart thinks. Borrow opinions from those whose opinions are worth considering. As Aristotle teaches us in the reading for today, men and women who are enslaved to the passions, who never rise above their animal natures by practicing the virtues, do not have worthwhile opinions. Only the person who exercises practical reason and attains practical wisdom knows how first to live his life, then to order his household, and finally, when he is sufficiently wise and mature, to venture opinions on how to bring order to the political community.

One of my goals for you this semester is that each of you will encounter at least one idea that you find disagreeable and that you will achieve genuine disagreement with that idea. I need to explain what I mean by that because many of you have never been taught how to disagree.

Disagreement is not expressing one’s disapproval of something or expressing that something makes you feel bad or icky. To really disagree with someone’s idea or opinion, you must first understand that idea or opinion. When Socrates tells you that a good life is better than a life in exile you can neither agree nor disagree with that claim without first understanding what he means by “good life” and why he thinks running away from Athens would be unjust. Similarly, if someone expresses a view about abortion, and you do not first take the time to understand what the view is and why the person thinks the view is true, then you cannot disagree with the view, much less reason with that person. You might take offense. You might feel bad that someone holds that view. But you are not reasoning unless you are engaging the merits of the argument, just as Socrates engaged with Crito’s argument that he should flee from Athens.

So, here are three ground rules for the rest of the semester.


1.  The only “ism” I ever want to come out your mouth is a syllogism. If I catch you using an “ism” or its analogous “ist” — racist, classist, etc. — then you will not be permitted to continue speaking until you have first identified which “ism” you are guilty of at that very moment. You are not allowed to fault others for being biased or privileged until you have first identified and examined your own biases and privileges.

2.  If I catch you this semester using the words “fair,” “diversity,” or “equality,” or a variation on those terms, and you do not stop immediately to explain what you mean, you will lose your privilege to express any further opinions in class until you first demonstrate that you understand three things about the view that you are criticizing.

3.  If you ever begin a statement with the words “I feel,” before continuing you must cluck like a chicken or make some other suitable animal sound.


To their credit, the students received the speech well. And so far this semester, only two students have been required to cluck like chickens.

It's always uncomfortable when we have to humour someone close to us in the name of avoiding conflict. Right now at Thames Valley University, entire science departments must be feeling slightly embarrassed about their degrees in quackery. Because despite the refusal of all universities to disclose what they teach on these, the leaks keep coming, and Prof. David Colquhoun of UCL continues to archive the comedy on his website.......... The University of Westminster have consistently failed to offer me or Colquhoun meaningful information about their degree courses. But we do have - via Colquhoun - a leaked exam paper from its homeopathy BSc degree course finals, asking questions about miasma. Miasmatic theory originated in the middle ages and lasted until the middle of the 19th century, when diseases such as cholera and plague were believed to be spread by foul air, known as miasmas....... If I was going to teach anything on a science degree, it wouldn't be miasma, and it wouldn't be a secret.
The education industry matters to its employees. Wages pay for life styles. They have security while honest men struggle to find work and make ends meet. Bring back magic, alchemy, what ever as long as we can find punters to be students.

There is no such thing as truth in science or anywhere else. Some propositions are worth stating clearly because they are so evidently false.  That is the idea being used to ruin education in Oz. It has already been used in the humanities with great success.

The subject of his lecture was standard for Dennis. There is, he said, a contradiction at the heart of our society. We live in one of the richest, most successful societies that has ever existed. Modernity depends on property rights secured by an impersonal framework of general laws, in which we can develop and use our human and physical capital to the best of our ability. Yet we have an education system that denies all the assumptions on which our success is built. The system has been captured by a pack of educational bureaucrats and academics who daily preach the evil of all that we have achieved, who deny the validity of our open society, and who have imposed a centrally-ordered curriculum that had denied millions of working class children the ability that he had of getting a good basic education and take advantage of the social mobility that capitalism has made possible. The answer is not to tinker with the system, but to replace it with something more receptive to consumer choice. We would never tolerate an economy run in this way, he said. Why do we tolerate an education system that reproduces the methods and failures of the old planned economies of the Soviet world? The middle classes can buy their way out of the system by sending their children to private schools. We need to find ways of extending this option of exit to the working classes. His solution is to abolish the compulsory attendance laws and to hand out vouchers to parents to let them buy the education of their choice.
This is fairly damning and from someone in the business.


 Deliberate Dumbing Down Of America
Charlotte Iserbyt is to be greatly commended for having put together the most formidable and practical compilation of documentation describing the “deliberate dumbing down” of American children by their education system. Anyone interested in the truth will be shocked by the way American social engineers have systematically gone about destroying the intellect of millions of American children for the purpose of leading the American people into a socialist world government controlled by behavioural and social scientists.
It sounds all too much like the education industry in England. Hegel is a dismal rogue who influenced Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler, not a double to be proud of. Mrs Iserbyte mentions Pursuing Excellence: A Study of U.S. Twelfth-Grade Mathematics and Science Achievement which available on line. Read for yourself. Think for yourself. Decide for yourself.

Jews Get Into University By Fraud, Not Merit [ 15 December 2012 ]
Ron Unz on the illusory American meritocracy
An enduring aspect of the self-concept of Jews is that their ascent to elite status in America and elsewhere is the natural result of a meritocracy. For example, after Elena Kagan was nominated for the Supreme Court, Robert Frank penned an article in the Wall Street Journal (“That Bright, Dying Star, the American WASP”) hailing the rise of a meritocracy where Jews could finally assume their rightful place as an elite, and cheering the demise of those lazy, corrupt WASPs who did everything they could to thwart the rise of the Jews, including placing limits on Jewish enrollment in the elite universities.  The fact that Kagan is remarkably unqualified to be a Supreme Court Justice in terms of the usual standards (judicial experience, academic publications, or even courtroom experience) never seems to have entered his mind. In Frank’s view, her ascent from Princeton undergraduate to Harvard Law, to high-level government positions and dean of Harvard Law is the American meritocracy in action—a view that conveniently ignores the role of her Jewish ethnic connections (see also here) in greasing her ascent, most egregiously her appointment as dean of Harvard Law by Larry Summers.

Ron Unz has published a very important article showing that Kagan’s remarkable rise is a symptom of a far wider issue—that Jewish admission to elite universities is far from meritocratic (“The myth of American meritocracy: How corrupt are Ivy League admissions?”). (On the basis of Unz’s article, it would be interesting to look at Kagan’s SAT and LSAT scores!) Because of their role in replenishing elites, university admissions is a huge lever of power. The implication of Unz’s article (although he would probably shy away from this wording) is that a Jewish elite now controls this lever of power and has used it to its advantage, resulting in a massive overrepresentation of Jews in elite universities compared to their academic qualifications or intelligence, while discriminating against non-Jewish Whites and against Asians............

Ron Unz has made a major contribution with this article. Let’s hope it has the effect of waking up some of the many millions of slumbering, fearful Whites who are presently just standing by and watching their displacement.

A London School Has Banned All Technology [ 1 October 2015 ]
This applies to children up to the age of 14 and makes sense. It cuts them off from a lot of Propaganda albeit this might not be the main reason. Giving them the opportunity to think for themselves is good. The Acorn School is a public school, which means that the parents are paying for education; that they are reasonably successful and are likely to encourage intellectual curiosity.


Secret Schools Used To Indoctrinate Jews And Islamics  [ 17 May 2016 ]
Thousands of children are hidden from authorities in unregistered Islamic and Jewish schools and are vulnerable to 'extremism and radicalisation,' Ofsted has warned. Inspectors have identified 100 suspected unregistered schools across the country since a team was set up in January to investigate the problem............

Unregistered schools are those that operate outside the supervision of the Department for Education, local authorities and Ofsted inspections and many [ as in well over 90% - Editor ] of those identified are understood [ as in known ] to be Jewish or Islamic. 

Sir Michael has written to Nicky Morgan, the Education Secretary, to say he is 'deeply alarmed' by the number of unregistered schools - the vast majority of which are faith schools that teach children a religious education. 

Some of the schools have been found to be exposing children to literature about 'extremist, sexist or partisan views' and for failing to teach basic facts about British institutions..........

He also said he welcomed the new legislation the Government intends on unregistered and supplementary schools, adding: 'I know we both share a determination to take swift and decisive action against those who are operating illegal schools and thereby putting children at risk of harm, including the risk of exposure to extremism and radicalisation.'
The Daily Mail is dancing round the truth. The basic reality is that Jews run their schools as Propaganda machines, keeping children ignorant of English apart from anything else. One product of these schools, Shlomo Benizri, an Israeli politician, Minister of Health, slaver and thief told us that  Homosexuals Caused Earthquake In Israel so he is 'homophobic'.

 Islamics are much the same. Third World crazies were imported with malice aforethought. Now they are producing a second or third generation to fill the Trojan Horses that our wonderful politicians have created.


Government Schools Are Propaganda Machines Says A Jew [ 2 July 2016 ]
According to Sir Michael Wilshaw, 100 such secret - or unregistered - schools have so far been identified by an Ofsted investigative taskforce as operating around Britain. In a letter to education secretary Nicky Morgan, he said some of these schools were teaching children "extremist sexist or partisan views", adding that they risked "undermining the government's efforts to ensure that all schools are promoting British values, including tolerance and respect for others". Sir Michael said that a minority of the schools are Jewish.

If Jewish pupils are, indeed, being educated in secrecy in their thousands, it's best they are brought out of the shadows voluntarily, before we face the unedifying prospect of our community leaders being dragged before the courts.
The Jew is fingering secret schools run by Islamics but his allegation regarding main stream government schools marketing 'British' values i.e. government approved propaganda is important. Obviously he does not mention government schools in Palestine, the Stolen Land that Jews call Israel inciting Race hatred against their victims, against Palestinians.


Universities Are Marxist Propaganda Machines [ 5 April 2017 ]
Of all our cultural institutions that have been captured by intolerant Leftist activists, our universities present the saddest and most ridiculous spectacle.

A university is meant to be a place of intellectual enquiry, where young minds obtain an education that will expand their horizons and expose them to the best that Western civilisation has to offer.

The corresponding fanatics a few centuries ago burnt people at the stake for their pains. This lot are just as self-righteous, just as full of hate. Grossly Overpaid Teacher Suspended Due To Fraud Allegations [ 10 May 2017 ]
The highest paid head teacher in England has been suspended from his role over what are said to be allegations of fraud.

Sir Craig Tunstall — whose earnings including pension for the past academic year were £374,000 — was suspended by governors of the Gipsy Hill Federation of primary schools in south London. He was knighted for services to education in 2014 and is recognised by the Department for Education (DfE) as a national leader of education.

The governors confirmed that the suspension was pending an internal investigation undertaken with Lambeth council.

A source suggested that the investigation related to claims of fraud and the school stressed that there were no concerns relating to child protection.
He looks like a  supercilious chancer. Lambeth has corruption aplenty.


Marxists Have Infiltrated The Education Industry [ 15 May 2017 ]
What are they teaching your children? Are they teaching them how to think – or what to think? Worse, are they monitoring you by trapping your children into answering intrusive questions about your private opinions? Do you know? You may think that the crazy ideas of the Hard Left are safely contained in  Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party, or the Guardian newspaper.

But some recent disturbing letters from parents of school-age children made my stomach lurch. I saw in these accounts the gradually solidifying shape of a nasty new intolerance, state-financed and more or less unavoidable by anyone with school-age children.

First of all, for a flavour of the ideas encouraged in our schools, look at a recent competition for ‘gifted pupils’. Let’s say this was ‘somewhere in Southern England’. Its theme was ‘2016: A Pivotal Year In History’, which might seem harmless. But what were the 15-year-olds involved actually doing?

The competition brief allowed for a wide range of topics to be covered. Wide? Well, the winners discussed ‘prejudice in 2016’. What prejudice was that? ‘Incidents of hate crime after Brexit, Islamophobia and the media portrayal of these events.’ They also dealt with, yes, ‘gender, religious and racial equality’.

The boy has recently come home from school and – with a note of disapproval in his voice – asked his father: ‘Dad, why do you read the Daily Mail?’ It turns out that a teacher had asked the pupils how their parents had voted for in the referendum, and when one of the pupils said ‘Brexit’, this teacher had responded, in a disapproving tone, by asking: ‘Why did they vote for that?’................

Governments come and go, supposedly Left-wing and supposedly Right-wing – though the supposedly Right-wing ones usually turn out to be nothing of the kind. But in the schools, the universities and most of the public sector, the wild Marxist Cultural Revolution quietly continues its Long March Through The Institutions.

Universities Lower Entry Standards  [ 15 August 2017 ]
Teenagers hoping to get into a top university through clearing will have a better chance than usual this year. Elite institutions are lowering their entry requirements in a desperate bid to recruit more students when A-level results are announced on Thursday.

Colleges are awash with places because of a dip in initial applications, caused by a reduction in the population of 18-year-olds and a decrease in EU students.
The Daily Mail notwithstanding, these are not top universities but they are a straw in the wind. The Education Industry is oversized. Most degrees are worthless. On a recent visit to the barber, my hair was cut by a young man who told me he had graduated from Southampton Solent University with a degree in football studies. He was friendly, articulate and skilled in his profession, but I doubted whether he thought his qualification was worth the debt he will carry as a millstone around his neck for 30 years.

Today, hundreds of thousands of young people receive their A-level results, and it is difficult not to worry about their future. The fortunate among them – those studying at the best universities and taking the best courses – may go on to prosper.

But those who choose the wrong institutions and courses will see little benefit, while those who do not go to university – still a majority of young people – will be neglected.
Get a job & learn something useful makes more sense than lazing round dreaming spires at Daddy's expense.

Parents of Year 2 pupils at St Winefride's Catholic Primary School in Manor Park, east London, received the controversial letter on Friday. Academies Trust Collapses After Asset Stripping Operation  [ 23 October 2017 ]

Her children had been back at school for two days at the start of term in September when parents had a letter saying the academy trust that managed Freeston and 20 other schools across Yorkshire was disbanding. “That was a real worry for me. One of my sons is in year 11 and the other in year nine. Year 11 is an important year, as it’s his GCSE year.”

Wakefield City Academies Trust now stands accused of “asset stripping” after it transferred millions of pounds of the schools’ savings to its own accounts before collapsing. On 8 September it released a statement announcing it would divest itself of its 21 schools as it could not undertake the “rapid improvement our academies need”. It said that new sponsors would be found to take them over.............

Heath View primary school in Wakefield had £300,000 transferred to the trust in September 2016. Another school, Wakefield City Academy, had more than £800,000 transferred towards the end of 2015. In both cases the trust told the schools’ governors that the transfer was a loan.

Students at Magdalen College voted to make the sessions mandatory for all freshers in a bid to make undergraduates more sensitive to the needs of ethnic minorities.

The course will cover cultural appropriation – the practice of adopting the customs or dress of a minority culture, for example, at a fancy dress party. Campaigners say it is offensive to do so for entertainment value, although some have struggled to explain the exact reasons why and where the boundaries should lie............

Other topics in the Magdalen course will include ‘definitions of racism’ and ‘institutional racism at Oxford’. It will also cover ‘implicit bias’ and advice on how to fight racism for both ethnic minorities and non-ethnic minorities.

Ofsted Finds 20 Illegal Schools Up North  [ 15 December 2017 ]
There are up to 20 illegal schools operating across the north-east of England, Yorkshire and Humberside, Ofsted has revealed. The schools are not registered or following a national curriculum and, in some cases, are teaching intolerant views to children. Inspectors have found literature in some which is misogynistic and homophobic, the watchdog said............

“It’s not just about the learning materials, it’s the condition of the premises, often where they’re not really appropriate settings and accommodations to have children educated,” she said.

Grammar Schools Make Little Difference Apparently   [ 23 March 2018 ]
Grammar schools have virtually no effect because genetics determine academic success, a King’s College London (KCL) study has found.

Researchers examined the genetic differences between students who attend selective and non-selective schools, then analysed their GCSE results. They found that children who attend grammar or private schools are more likely to do well in exams - but this is largely down to their genes, rather than their school environment...........

She added that teachers and schools should be more open to discussing the role of genetics in the classroom, and the effects it has on educational attainment. Professor Robert Plomin, another of the paper’s authors, said that genetics should be included in teacher training courses.

The row echoes a similar one in Birmingham where an estimated 600 Muslim children were withdrawn from a school in protest against lessons about homosexuality and gender equality. A spokeswoman for LGBT Muslims slammed the statements from the parents as 'traditional homophobia dressed up as a faith issue'.

The University of Bristol is to order an examination in to its historical links to slavery. The move, which follows a similar announcement by the University of Cambridge last week, comes as the city looks to get to grips with its key role in the slave trade. The university will advertise for a permanent academic position looking at the history of slavery. 

The scholar that gets the job will lead efforts by staff to 'explore, investigate and determine the university's historical links to slavery', the Observer reported. Explaining the move on their website, the university estimates that around 85 per cent of the wealth used to found the institution depended on the labour of slaves.

Schools In Texas Will Teach Sodomy At Primary Schools 4 November 2019 ]
A Texas school district has voted to approve a new sex education program for 8-year-olds that will teach children how to engage in sodomy, how to put on condoms, and that gender is "non-binary."

Despite strong opposition from parents, the Austin Independent School District gave the green light for the plan that will also drop gender-specific language such as "mother" and "father" from the curriculum from third grade and up.

The curriculum discourages gender-specific language because it “can limit [children’s] understanding of gender into binaries,” according to Texas Values, Schools will now also encourage children to attend LGBTQ “pride” events and discover other ways to become transgender “allies.”

The plan proposes children should act out various role-play scenarios in class. The suggestions include situations where lesbians are deciding when to engage in oral sex and how to handle the aftermath of a drunken sexual encounter...........

University bosses fear the higher education system is out of touch with the nation, a report has said.

Vice-chancellors and senior governors said universities’ ‘sneering’ attitudes towards patriotism, fat-cat pay packets and grade inflation have broken down public trust, The Times reported. Research by the Policy Exchange think-tank, which interviewed 50 university officials for its report, suggests growing discontent among vice-chancellors and chairmen of university governing bodies towards the system’s inability to reform. 

It said universities must show ‘they speak for and reflect the whole nation’ and leaders should avoid being ‘the voice of critics who actively despise those who have traditional values of patriotism, family, faith or local traditions’.

Eton's Head Master moved to reassure parents of his commitment to ‘intellectual freedom’ yesterday after an English teacher was sacked over a controversial lecture.

Simon Henderson denied he wanted to ‘shut down debate’ at the £42,500-a-year school. In a letter to parents, he insisted that the importance of ‘independent thinking and intellectual freedom’ was ‘non-negotiable’ at Eton. 
Sacking a teacher for a bit of Free Speech then claiming that he likes 'intellectual freedom' is gross hypocrisy. Does he think his customers are stupid enough to believe him? The teacher was dismissed for inviting students to consider and question 'radical feminist orthodoxy'. Eton Head Master In The Frame For Wrongful Dismissal  [ 11 December 2020 ]
A FEW days ago, I wrote about the woke Eton headmaster Simon Henderson (‘Trendy Hendy’) and his dismissal of English teacher Will Knowland for daring to post a video to his private YouTube channel which pushed back at the idea of the big bad evil patriarchy. 

After raising a £55k war chest to fight a potential employment tribunal, Knowland also received backing from the Free Speech Union (FSU), of which he is a member.

The FSU have posted ten probing questions to Eton College. I have reprinted them below and urge you to read the full letter here, and to support this crowd funder for Mr Knowland and his family if you feel able.

1. Can the College Trustees provide evidence that they considered the impact of the decisions against Mr Knowland on their charitable duties? If so, the Free Speech Union would be grateful if the Trustees could provide such evidence, with any adaptations that are necessary for data protection or confidentiality purposes (this caveat applies to all further requests for evidence)................................

d. Have the Trustees reported the matter of Mr Knowland’s dismissal to the Charity Commission as a serious incident? If not, do they intend to do so imminently or within their annual return? If not, the Free Speech Union would be grateful if the Trustees could provide their reasoning for this decision.

Eton Teacher Loses Appeal Against His Dismissal  [ 15 December 2020 ]
A sacked Eton College tutor at the centre of a free speech row has today lost his appeal. The governing body of the £42,500-a-year Berkshire college has upheld the decision of school chiefs to sack Will Knowland. The English teacher was dismissed over an online lecture tackling radical feminism and the concept of 'toxic masculinity'.

His dismissal, for reportedly refusing to take down his lecture from his personal YouTube channel, sparked outrage among students, who immediately launched a petition for Mr Knowland to be reinstated..............

Today Mr Henderson told parents in a letter that Mr Knowland's sacking was 'regrettable' and called on staff to 'continue positive dialogue between those who hold opposing views' [ like the one he attacked - Editor ].
A Judicial Review [ of Administrative Action ] will hold that a quasi-judicial tribunal has an obligation to be fair. The Eton lot will come unstuck. They should have played straight and sacked the head master without making a fuss.


Eton College Teacher Gets Five Years For Paedophile Abuse  [ 18 December 2020 ]
An Eton College paedophile teacher was told he had committed 'the most gross breach of trust' as he was jailed for five years today for late-night abuse of pupils. Matthew Mowbray, 49, was found guilty of eight counts of sexual activity with a child after admitting downloading hundreds of indecent images of children.

He had run a photography club and took pictures of pupils before combining them with child abuse images to create his own indecent creations. Mowbray - who taught geography at the £42,000-a-year college - had been branded a 'skillful and deceitful manipulator' during the harrowing trial at Reading Crown Court.

It is aimed at children aged seven and older, and will be published on August 5. The project is a collaboration between reading charity Book Trust, publisher Knights Of, and charity Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE). A press release from the project's creators spays Book Trust will provide a free copy of the anthology to every primary school in England and, in partnership with CLPE, will 'create and distribute free curriculum resources'.  

Jill Coleman, director of children's books at book Trust, said: 'Happy Here is going to thrill and inspire children in families and schools across the country and we want to make sure it is read pay thousands of children.

Expensive New York School Markets Anti-White Racism  [ 16 April 2021 ]
The principal of the celebrity-loving private New York City school that charges $57,000 per year says he is 'disappointed' a math teacher penned an expose saying students are being indoctrinated by radical race theory that makes them ashamed to be white. 

Paul Rossi, a math teacher at Grace Church High School in Manhattan's NoHo neighborhood, publicly blasted his employer in a blog post on Tuesday. 

He accused the school of 'indoctrinating' students with 'anti-racism' ideology that he says induces shame in white students. Rossi also said the school wanted teachers to embrace anti-racism training and that they are required to 'treat students differently on the basis of race'.  Principal George P. Davison sent a letter to parents and staff in the wake of Rossi's scathing post saying he was 'disappointed' the math teacher had chosen to air his 'differences' in a public forum.

Davison failed to address any of the claims raised by Rossi..........

The head of the elite Manhattan school Dalton is stepping down this year after being slammed by parents for pushing an 'obsessive', antiracism agenda on students. Jim Best said he would see out the year at the $50,000-a-year institution then step down to pursue 'other opportunities'. 

His resignation is in response to parents' complaints that Dalton, like other prestigious private schools Grace Church and Brearley, is indoctrinating students with its woke agenda.

Dalton parents penned an anonymous open letter to the school earlier this week. 

'Every class this year has had an obsessive focus on race and identity, ‘racist cop’ reenactments in science, ‘de-centering whiteness’ in art class, learning about white supremacy and sexuality in health class.

A father has pulled his daughter out of an exclusive Upper East Side private school in outrage over the school's extensive anti-racism policies that include training for parents, and which he says are teaching kids to hate their own country. 

Andrew Gutmann penned a scathing letter against The Brearley School, an all-girls school in Manhattan where fees are $53,000-a-year, which he sent to more than 600 other parents. 

Brearley's alumni includes Caroline Kennedy, the actress Tea Leoni, Elisabeth Murdoch, Dorothy Schiff and Alice Gore King. In his letter, Gutmann mapped out what he called Brearley's 'critical race theory' which he said is 'advocating that Blacks should forever be regarded as helpless victims'. 

One of the examples he gave was the school's 'sophomoric' and 'simplistic' anti-racism training sessions for parents, and the fact that materials that have been taught for years are now suddenly considered offensive in light of the BLM movement. .....................

'By viewing every element of education, every aspect of history, and every facet of society through the lens of skin color and race, we are desecrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and utterly violating the movement for which such civil rights leaders believed, fought, and died,' he said.  

Gutmann, a 45-year-old investment banker, went on to say that the school was 'indoctrinating' the girls into a single mindset that is 'most reminiscent of the Chinese Cultural Revolution.'

Headmaster Of Expensive American Public School Admits Demonizing White People   [ 21 April 2021 ]
The math teacher who was pulled from his classes at Grace Church School after criticizing the school's anti-racism policies released audio Tuesday of an explosive phone call in which the head of school made an astonishing admission – that 'we're demonizing white people for being born.'

Paul Rossi, the teacher, released the audio on Twitter Tuesday morning of a phone conversation with George Davison that he said occurred March 2. The two are apparently talking about the whole woke movement in schools and how authority figures are making white students feel inherently racist.

'Let me ask you something, George, because I think there's something very different about having a single experience where you make sense of it, right, and having a teacher, an authority figure, talk to you endlessly, every year, telling you, that because you have whiteness you are associated with evils, all these different evils,' Rossi tells him on the excerpt he released.............

'We're demonizing ki,' Davison says before cutting himself off. Then he adds, 'We're demonizing white people, for being born.'...............

Virginia Dumbing Down Maths In Schools To Achieve Equity  [ 26 April 2021 ]
According to Loudoun County School Board member Ian Serotkin, the change would eliminate classes such as Algebra I and II and Geometry.  He said, “[A]s currently planned, this initiative will eliminate ALL math acceleration prior to 11th grade.  That is not an exaggeration, nor does there appear to be any discretion in how local districts implement this. All 6th graders will take Foundational Concepts 6. All 7th graders will take Foundational Concepts 7. All 10th graders will take Essential Concepts 10. Only in 11th and 12th grade is there any opportunity for choice in higher math courses.”................

Charles Pyle did not provide a direct answer to concerns about the new program holding back advanced students or preventing students from improving their skills at the rate suited their individual abilities.  His reply to a request for more details on how to accommodate different skill levels was only, “Differentiated instruction is designed to provide the appropriate levels of challenge and academic rigor for each student.”...........

Many parents are expressing serious concern that the initiative would enforce “equity” at the cost of holding back gifted students, however.  Ian Prior, a parent in Loudoun County and a former Trump administration official, said he feared the proposed program would “stifle advancement for gifted students and set them back as they prepare for advanced mathematics in college. This is critical race theory in action and parents should be outraged.”

Another parent, speaking anonymously, worried, “These changes will have a profound impact on students who excel in STEM related curriculum, weakening our country’s ability to compete in a global marketplace for years to come.” Virginia is also considering the elimination of advanced high school diplomas to increase “equity,” including racial “equity.”
Serotkin was involved in programming. He understands that maths matter. Is that why he wants dumbing down? Be aware that Equity Is Not Equality but another Left Wing excuse for favouring blacks over white people. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but you can waste a lot of time failing to do it.

A university has been slammed by academics for putting Charles Darwin on a list of 'racist' scientists as part of a guide to 'decolonise' its biology curriculum. 

Sheffield University has created a handbook for students and lecturers in its science department to help 'tackle racial injustice' by 'reflecting on the whiteness and Eurocentrism of our science'.

As part of the guide, the department created a list of 11 'problematic' scientific figures - including Darwin - whose views 'influenced the type of research they carried out and how they interpreted their data'. An explanation next to the 19th century naturalist's name says that Darwin 'believed that his theory of natural selection justified the view that the white race was superior to others'.

But the guide provides no information about Darwin's strong support for the abolition of slavery, something he referred to as his 'sacred cause'.
Sheffield University should be very good on metallurgy but it's worthless on other things. Kings College Panders To Lunatic Fringe After They Abused Prince Philip  [ 2 June 2021 ]
Ministers have slammed 'silly' King's College London while its alumni have suggested withdrawing funding after the university apologised for causing 'harm' by sending staff a photo of Prince Philip opening one of its libraries. Left-wingers reacted angrily to an email bulletin they received after the Duke of Edinburgh's death in April which featured an image of him opening the Maughan Library with the Queen back in 2002.

The complaints against the late duke - who was made Life Governor of the institution in 1995 - refer to his 'history of racist and sexist comments'. Following weeks of simmering tensions, Joleen Clarke, the associate director at King's College libraries, sent out an extraordinary apology for the 'harm' caused by including the photo in her email.

But King's College's apology has since caused its own backlash, including among free speech campaigners and MPs. 
The embarrassed donors seem thin on the ground but no matter. The serious point is that Hard Left crazies have been exposed for what they are. Yale University Encourages Racism If It Is Anti-White  [ 9 June 2021 ]
........Recently it has come out that a psychiatrist of Pakistani background expressed visceral hatred toward White people in a lecture titled, appropriately enough, “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind.” You’ve probably read about it, but it’s important to emphasize these things. Get used to it. They are part of the culture now, and emanating from very high places.

The lecture was not held at a local BLM event, but at Yale University and attendees could use it for course credit—it would “fulfill the licensure requirement set forth by the State of Connecticut.” Some of her statements:

Yale did nothing to distance itself from her talk until conservatives started publicizing it. “When Herzog asked about Yale’s response when Khilanani submitted her talk and materials, she said there was none.” And in the immediate aftermath, there was nothing but praise: “Dr. Khilanani noted that her lecture had initially been well received. After she gave it, several attendees praised her comments on the online feed. One woman who identified herself as a Yale psychologist called it “absolutely brilliant.” A man said, “I feel very shook in a good way,” and a Black woman thanked Dr. Khilanani for giving “voice to us as people of color and what we go through all the time.”

Yale is now busy distancing itself from the talk, but it is still available to students and presumably still counts for the licensure requirement. Khilanani is now saying that she was speaking in metaphors: “My speaking metaphorically about my own anger was a method for people to reflect on negative feelings. To normalize negative feelings. Because if you don’t, it will turn into a violent action.”

Education Industry Has Been Oppressing White Children For Decades    [ 23 June 2021 ]
A furious row has broken out among Tory and Labour MPs after a landmark report exposed how 'divisive' and 'politically controversial' terms such as 'white privilege' have led to the 'systemic neglect' of white working-class children by England's education system for decades.  

The Conservative-dominated Commons Education Select Committee said white working-class pupils are one of the worst-achieving groups in the country, and 'feel anything but privileged'.

It said they are behind many of their similarly disadvantaged peers of other ethnicities at ages five, 16 and 18 - and that 'politically controversial' and 'divisive' phrases such as 'white privilege' may have contributed to poor white pupils being forgotten by the system 'for decades'.  

The MPs also warned against 'pitting different groups against each other' and suggested that schools which promote ideas of 'white privilege' could be in breach of the Equality Act 2010.............

But Tory chairman Robert Halfon [ a Jew ] was forced to deny claims by Labour MPs his committee was trying to peddle a 'fake culture war' by branding the term 'white privilege' as  'wrong-headed' because it 'says there is collective guilt when it should be individual responsibility for racists acts'. 

Labour MPs including former Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott accused the Tories of hijacking the committee to 'divert attention' from government cuts to spending. They added that 'their attack on the term white privilege is designed to cause division'...........

Tory MP for Mansfield Ben Bradley told MailOnline: 'Come to my constituency and talk to these kids, very often young white lads but girls too, who are dropping out of school with no qualifications, who have often had zero help from home or parents, and who have no financial or cultural capital.

'Tell them their skin colour makes them privileged, as if that is any kind of indicator of their life chances. It's not. It's total nonsense, and the fact that so many rich people complain when this is pointed out just shows that these kids really have been forgotten.' 

He added: 'I think it is a sad sign of the times and of the state of the Labour Party that from all of the hugely important content of that report, they have chosen not to pick up on the appalling disparity evidenced within it, but instead to focus on about two paragraphs that fit their identity politics narrative.

Academics Defend Teacher Who Taught Children About Pornography And Masturbation [ 16 July 2021 ]
Academics rushed to defend a former teacher at an elite New York City school who taught “pornography literacy” to high schoolers and showed first graders a cartoon about masturbation. Justine Ang Fonte taught sex education at Dalton School in Manhattan for nine years, The New York Times reported, developing K-12 curriculums for students and speaking and offering workshops at other New York City schools.

The sex educator sparked a backlash from parents when she taught two Zoom sessions to Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School on the Upper West Side in May to junior and senior high schoolers. The school’s head, Bill Donohue, told the Times that he understood the lecture would be under the topic “Healthy Sexuality Workshop,” but Fonte’s sex education prompted parents to take their grievances about her explicit material to the New York Post.

The publication reported that Fonte’s slides discussed “incest-themed” porn, consensual or “vanilla” porn, “barely legal” porn, “kink and BDSM” porn, “waterboard electro” torture porn, and more...............

Fonte left the school in June, the third high-profile staffer to depart the progressive school due to parental outrage.

America Dumbing Down Maths Teaching Because Blacks And Browns Are Stupid  [ 6 May 2021 ]
California's Department of Education has announced that the gap between well-performing students and their less able peers must disappear, indicating that mere words are not enough - schools must deliver ‘equity’ in classrooms.

Such an effort would involve faculty holding well-performing students back, even while pushing their less intellectual peers forward (as if they were all indeed equal in abilities). Potentially stranding a group of gifted individuals in a situation where they are held back by a single child who simply can’t get a problem right and needs endless special instruction is hardly something to be proud of, for the school or the students themselves.

Released on Tuesday, the sprawling, hundreds of pages-long manifesto delivered by the California Health Department described how schools must focus on “active efforts” in mathematics. Starting at the beginning of K-12 education to ensure no “gifted and talented” or advanced tracking programs take hold among the faculty, the policy implies to parents that if they want the same free public education as anywhere else in their school district, they have no choice but to subject their kids to racist pandering and a warped new form of mathematics that many may find insulting................

We reject ideas of natural gifts and talents,” the proposal states, insisting “there is no cutoff determining when one child is ‘gifted’ and another is not.” The proposal also wants to “replace ideas of innate mathematics ‘talent’ and ‘giftedness’ with the recognition that every student is on a growth pathway.”..........

Fortunately for California students (and their parents), the proposition has not yet been passed into National Education Administration policy, but it runs the risk of joining several peer states in following through. Other states including Oregon, Virginia, and Illinois have eagerly embraced the idea.

Virginia was especially keen to join the nationwide efforts to refashion children’s education into a new and patronizing style of social control. Last month, Virginia announced it would streamline educational “equity” – a plan which involves replacing math with “foundational concepts,” ditching algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus, and imposing a lowest-common-denominator model of teaching and wiping out the option of taking any advanced math course before entering the 11th grade.

Meanwhile, New York City has done away with the admissions criteria to some of their most prestigious private schools, outraging parents who prefer their wealthy hothouse flowers be raised in a more ‘traditional’ environment. Dalton, a prestigious private school in the city, unleashed an “anti-racism manifesto” last year demanding the institution hire 12 “diversity officers” and even psychologists to push back on “race-based traumatic stress.”

Where, then, does that leave the bucketloads of students needing to be educated? Not universities – they’re too busy dodging their own woke-eruptions – and certainly not fellow students, who are probably just as confused as they are.
Is America being run by self-righteous fools, the Lunatic Fringe or their manipulators, the Puppet Masters? At all events compare this lot of crazies with the next two. Take the point that it is Russia Today explaining American lunacy.

Oregon Governor Removes Requirement For School Leavers To Be Literate   [ 14 October 2021 ]
Oregon Governor Kate Brown quietly signed a bill last month that removed the requirement for graduating high school children [ @ circa 16 - Editor ] in the state to be proficient in reading, writing, and math, in an effort to aid “students of color.”

Brown signed Senate Bill 744 on July 14, but did not issue a press release or hold a ceremony to mark the occasion, instead opting to pass the bill into law as quietly as possible, according to the Oregonian. The bill also wasn’t entered into a legislative database until two weeks after its signing – an abnormality, as bills are typically entered on the same day.

Though Brown was quiet about the bill, the governor’s deputy communications director, Charles Boyle, told the Oregonian that suspending the reading, writing, and math proficiency requirements would benefit “students of color” while the state comes up with a new set of “equitable” graduation standards.

Until then, the suspension will apparently help those who are “Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, [or] Tribal.”...............

Oregon Republicans attempted to push back against the bill, with Oregon House Minority Leader Christine Drazan arguing that it would “lower our expectations for our kids” at a time when “we have had this year of social isolation and lost learning” due to Covid-19. They were unsuccessful, however, as the Democrat-controlled legislature overwhelmingly supported the move.
Can Brown read & write? Perhaps. She looks gormless in the mug shot. Lowering standards might help those with low IQs in the short term. The cognitive elite are becoming more important and numerous. Their pay is rising too. You doubt it? Read The Bell Curve & know it is true.

Harvard Is On The Skids  [ April Fool's Day 2022 aka 1
Why Hire from Harvard? Will Harvard be to the 2020s what General Motors was to the 1980’s?
Recently, Albemarle Man
expressed the hope that the Supreme Court might give Harvard University more leeway to admit ever more Blacks and ever fewer Asians.  In other words, leeway to significantly reduce the average IQ of its student body.

Let’s say, one way or another, the Supreme Court punts the ball down field and not much changes.  Harvard will continue to admit students based on a grab bag list of what — to any employer — must seem idiotic criteria.

It has been doing this for decades.

Is it time to ask why anyone would hire from Harvard?

Perhaps an analogy to the humble motor car is in order.

From 1930 through 1970, General Motors established Cadillac (perhaps along with Ford’s Lincoln Continental) as the premier luxury car brand in the U.S.  Aside from handmade specialties like Rolls Royce and a few Italian super-sportscars, Cadillac was the vehicle you drove if you wanted to show you had arrived.  If you had asked anyone from McKinsey in the day whether another mass-produced luxury car had a chance of vaulting past Cadillac, he would have given you a long lecture about the power of branding backed by massive advertising.

Fast forward to 1990.  The premier luxury cars in the world were now (i) the Mercedes Benz; (ii) the BMW 7-Series, and, increasingly (iii) the Toyota Lexus.  Cadillac had tarnished its brand due to two factors: (i) first, it did not continue to match its vehicles to newer realities — such as significantly higher gas prices; (ii) second, and most crucially, it started to produce defect-plagued cars.  This problem evidenced itself through the entire GM fleet.  However, the vision of a Cadillac (!) with doors rattling from the Coke bottles left inside by negligent or angry workers must have been an unpleasant shock to the denizens of country clubs like the Winged Foot or River Oaks.  Not surprisingly, the parking lots of such venerable institutions soon filled up with fewer Cadillacs and more German and Japanese luxury automobiles.

Can this degrading process apply to higher education?  Today, if one were to suggest that Harvard’s bizarre selection process may eviscerate the desirability of its graduates, one would get another long lecture about the power of branding over generations.  Possibly the memo from 1970 could be re-used, simply replacing “Cadillac” with “Harvard.”

That is not to say that qualities apart from pure IQ are not important in life success.  However, to those who use this as a justification for Harvard’s grab-bag admissions criteria, one must ask:  is it likely that a diversity bureaucrat who has never held a real job in his life, is likely to identify such a person?

The blunt fact is that, in today’s increasingly IQ-driven and quantitative skills-demanding economy, Harvard is no longer fit for purpose.  And probably has not been for quite a while.  A stroll down memory lane may be in order.

One could do worse in this regard than to peruse a couple of volumes of the Foreign Policy of the United States (produced by the State Department) for the Carter administration (the most recent Presidency represented, since generally 40 years must pass from a Presidency to publication of these volumes due to classification restrictions).

After reading the 1,800 pages of previously classified internal memoranda, inter-office communications, and the like reprinted in two of those volumes, it becomes obvious who the key players were.  And they are not people you have heard of.  No, they do not include Cyrus Vance, the eminent Yale-trained lawyer then Secretary of State on leave from the equally distinguished law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, his deputy for Arms Control, Yale-trained lawyer Paul Warnke of Clifford & Warnke (yes, that Clifford), or even the ever-self promoting “international relations” specialist from Columbia, Zbigniew Brzezinski.

No, they include people who, almost to a man, were mathematicians, physicists, chemists, and game theorists (did I say mathematicians?) such as Secretary of Defense Harold Brown (Bronx School of Science, grade average 99.5, Ph.D. in Physics from Columbia, personally selected by Ede [Edward] Teller to help miniaturize the fusion nuclear bomb), William Perry, a mathematician heading DARPA, later to be Clinton’s Secretary of Defense, the immortal Andrew Marshall (degrees in a number of subjects ranging from mathematics to economics to history, but primarily self-taught, a RAND emigre selected by his fellow traveler at RAND, James Schlesinger during Schlesinger’s brief tour as Secretary of Defense during the late Nixon and early Ford administrations), heading [the DOD “Office of Net Assessment,” whose creations included the Trident missile system and, with DARPA, the electronic warfare we know today).  For all the “sturm and drang” about relatively inconsequential items like the 400 hapless hostages held at “hotel Tehran,” the real game was being played by Harold Brown, who quietly allowed his generals to scotch arms control and, in private meetings, negotiated with Germany’s Helmut Schmidt, UK’s Dennis Healey, and France’s Valerie Giscard d’Estang and their respective technical experts to introduce the Pershing missiles into Germany.  It was the ultimate introduction of those missiles in the Reagan administration that, by his own admission, made Gorbachev’s blood run cold and led to substantial positive changes in the security environment facing the United States.

Fundamentally, foreign policy is governed by the power a nation is capable of projecting and delivering to a potential enemy.  In the Carter administration, whether the subject was disarmament (a big bête noire of President Carter), how to deal with the massive Soviet superiority in conventional forces vis-à-vis Western Europe, or virtually anything else (apart perhaps from the “touchy-feely” subject of civil revolutions like Vietnam, which in any case was over by that time), the memoranda and inter-agency projectiles launched by the DOD against its erstwhile bureaucratic adversaries, the Yale-trained lawyers at State or the “international relations expert” from Columbia at the NSC, were so comprehensive and devastating from a technical point of view that no successful response would have been possible without massive quantitative counter-backup — which, in the event, was not there.  Undoubtedly, Carter, himself the beneficiary of engineering training at Annapolis, appreciated this.

To summarize, public policy at the highest levels is a serious business.  And whether the subject is defense, public health, or any other program dealing with either new technology or massive numbers, the people who will be of value and, as the saying goes, “in the game,” will be people with significant quantitative backgrounds — as at least part, if not all, of their skill sets.  Which will presuppose, of course, massive IQs.

Government is not the only sector where this has occurred.  Private business has followed the same path.  Finance has become so much more quantitative in the recent past that, say, the head of bond trading at a Salomon Brothers or Lehman as recently as 1980 would simply be incapable of understanding any of the products that today make banks like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley the bulk of their money.  Even the advertising business has converted from a touchy-feely enterprise of aspiring word and pictorial artists into an information collection business involving the analysis of massive pools of data and the ability to produce mathematical algorithms to assist in interpreting that data, often real time.  One need not even mention the elephant in the room — the high-tech industry, which now makes up about 1/4th of the S&P 500 by fair market value.

A couple of years ago, the head of the eminent Winchester School in England — hardly a bastion of technocratic Jews like Harold Brown — publicly recognized this on his school’s website.  This man, head of a school that has been operating since at least the year 1400 — said that “what Latin was to the 15th century, mathematics will be for the 21st century.” At Winchester, he implied, we continue to teach Latin, but we need to up the game in mathematics.  To put it crudely, the day of public policy or American business being meaningfully guided by gentlemen from Groton and Choate (and Harvard) with pretty good history plus a little geometry and maybe some trigonometry — plus their affirmative-action hires — is past its sell-by date.

Now let us turn back to fair Harvard.  And take a look at some of the simpler numbers a crude analysis of its current class makeup gives us.  It won’t take a 99.5% grade average at Bronx Science to decipher what it might mean to a prospective employer — and to the public interest.

Harvard each year admits approximately 1,600 students.  Of these, cross-checking a number of informal sources on the internet, the following groups appear:

  • Approximately 400 are athletes.
  • Approximately 400 are legacies.
  • Approximately 400 are low-performing Blacks and other minorities there solely because of affirmative action, probably substantially less capable than even the athletes or the legacies.

Well, not much left is there?  Do we dare conclude that only about 400 of a 1,600 entering class are there on any form of intellectual merit?  And even among those, the highest IQs are weeded out by the grab-bag of “leadership” criteria used for entry, including after-school activities, working on a kibbutz (but, God forbid, not an American farm in Illinois, known source of Hitler Jugend).  One could do worse than to read a truly depressing article about the students at Groton who did, and did not, get into the Ivy League Universities.  (See For Groton Grads, Academics Aren’t Only Keys to Ivy Schools: “Most of the students in [Groton’s senior] class who were accepted by those universities had less impressive academic credentials than his. What they had instead were certain characteristics such as money, connections, or minority status that helped them vault over him to the universities of their choice.) The reader of such an article must only conclude that the Groton students he wants will precisely be those who are not accepted at Harvard — or any other Ivy League institution, since the ones accepted at Harvard seemed to be a group of the least intelligent and/or least capable one could scrape up from the basement floor of that otherwise esteemed preparatory school.

So what is the net result?

The Harvard Mathematics Department reports that each year approximately ten (10) — yes 10, (for those mathematically challenged, 10 is the lowest two-digit number) — students out of 1,600 graduate with a degree in Pure Mathematics, probably the most intellectually demanding mathematics (or any other) discipline.  Another 150–200 or so graduate with applied math degrees.  Another 200 or so graduate with Physics degrees.  Assuming no overlap, there you are almost at 400.  With probable significant overlap, there is still room for a significant number of Chemistry and Electrical Engineering majors.  In fact, one fine fellow recently graduated with a dual-major in Mathematics and Fine Arts — apparently the first time this had happened in Harvard’s history.  Of course, he was an Asian.

It is obvious that the truly difficult disciplines are reserved to the genetically elite 400.  Athletes, legacies, and minorities need not apply.  Nor would they be stupid enough to do so.  They know they would flunk out.

So the intellectually terrorized “untermenschen” crowd the economics, government, history, and sociology departments (we do not even discuss the ridiculous “Black Studies” departments), producing, one must only assume future second-grade Cyrus Vances — now in both White-and Blackface.  Is that really what we need more of at this time?  And, even if an employer does not want or need a quant background in his hires, must not an employer realize that, in hiring from Harvard’s economics and government graduates, the employer is almost guaranteed to get inferior-grade material, as compared to, say, a double 800 with a 4.0 from Stuyvesant or Groton rejected at Harvard and hence attending the University of Illinois?

Combining this with the increasing momentum of woke affirmative action, it is clear that Harvard, like the folks at Cadillac before it, is hell-bent on turning their product into an inferior brand.  And at some point the market will recognize this and react.  Savagely and with speed.  With the cold calculation of a businessman seeking the smartest people to maximize his return on invested capital, or the grim determination of a DOD Secretary under huge pressure who needs — in real time — informed analysis of a host of impossibly complex weapons systems or war scenarios.

But, more importantly, what is the competition doing — and what has it been doing for more than a century?  Andrei Martyanov, an immigrant from the Soviet Union, has contributed his point of view.  Martyanov, a graduate of a Naval engineering and mathematics academy in the Soviet Union, in his recent book Losing Military Supremacy:  The Myopia of American Strategic Planning has decried the composition of American elites as compared with those in less fortunate countries like China, Russia, and even a good portion of Europe.  He decries the reality that none of our elites “know anything.”  They have no technical backgrounds and thus are incapable of even engaging in sophisticated debate, let alone of arriving at sensible policies.  Though there are a few, like Harold Brown and William Perry, the bulk appear to be completely non-quantitative.

The competition, as Martyanov notes, has not been sitting still.  As long ago as 150 years ago, European countries, packed together in a hostile national security environment (think Hungary not far from Germany or the Austro-Hungarian Empire smack up against France, Prussia, and not far from the borders of the Russian Empire) realized that technological advance was necessary in order that they not be leap-frogged — perhaps fatally — by one of their all-too-nearby adversaries in terms of armament capacity and quality.  About 3 seconds later, each realized that they needed a pipeline from grades K through 12 to produce students with sufficient background in mathematics and the sciences such that they could progress rapidly through first-class engineering programs.  The result was a K-through university mathematics and science pipeline unrivalled by anything ever seen, to this day, in the fat and happy United States, whose main interest was in producing potential aspiring clerks in John Hancock’s counting house. (Although the USSR’s launch of Sputnik in 1957 led to what has turned out to be a temporary emphasis on science and technology education in the U.S.) This has produced some anomalous results, including the outstanding performance in mathematics competitions of the top math school in the tiny country of Rumania.  The result that, notwithstanding a number of commercially inventive product roll-outs from places like the Edison labs, the U.S. had, until after World War II, very little “big league” scientific establishment compared to, say, Germany or Russia or even the rest of Europe.  The geniuses and well-trained minds that did the most difficult science that allowed the US to leapfrog the rest of the world during and after World War II were, in the main, imported from Europe and had been trained in Europe, due in part to Hitler’s driving out a number of his best scientists on religious or ethnic grounds.  To this day, émigrés from the Soviet Union claim that the bottom half of the graduate math classes at places like Harvard and Yale are generally composed of native-born Americans; the top performers are those educated at places like Tsing Hai, Lomosonov Moscow State University, and even Oxford and Cambridge.

To compete, we need to up our game.  And from that point of view, Harvard is not part of the solution.  Increasingly, it is part of the problem.  For private business, and for the rest of us.

So, I ask again.

Unless Harvard drastically changes its game plan, will employers be asking in 2030:

“Why hire from Harvard?”

Second Tier Universities Shrinking   [ 28 June 2022 ]
The University of Wolverhampton is halting recruitment to 138 courses, across all of its campuses, for the next academic year. Undergraduate and postgraduate courses from “across the university portfolio” are affected. Some of them are performing arts subjects, based at the Walsall campus. Others include some of the craft areas in the School of Arts, taught in the building near Molineux, and some course areas in the sciences.

Bosses say the Covid pandemic has increased its costs, while enrolments have been falling. The university is now embarking on a “robust recovery action plan” which is understood to have included an internal cost-saving exercise. Staff are also being offered voluntary severance payments under a “mutually agreed resignation scheme”.........

The union said it was aware of 47 courses being ‘paused’ across drama and acting, dance, musical theatre, music, audio technology and digital production arts.

It adds: “Current students will continue to be taught ‘out’.”
Universities were already in trouble financially, but they also had a legitimacy crisis. Their open-minded traditions were threatened by suppression, by no-platforming, of unapproved views. Mickey Mouse degrees are played out; not before time either. Where will the useless eaters go? Pass. The Education was a growth industry; now it is on the skids.

Hard Left Tightens Grip On Universities   [ 16 November 2022 ]
Universities are being told to 'go woke''' and 'decolonise' courses from computing to classics by the degrees watchdog.

For the first time, the Quality Assurance Agency, which checks on course standards, has incorporated critical race theory into its recommendations. It wants a wide range of courses – including sciences and maths – to teach about colonialism including 'white supremacy'.  

It is expected many tutors will take on board the advice, although compliance is technically voluntary, Mail Plus reports. The move shows how much the Left-wing ideology of student activists has been woven into the fabric of higher education. In one bizarre example, the QAA says computing courses should address how 'hierarchies of colonial value' are 'reinforced' in the field.
One could have fun with this, teaching these eager young minds about the total black failure to invent writing, reading or anything much else. Or, go one better and tell them who ran the Slave Trade; Jews on the west coast, Arabs on the east coast. They did the trading but it was local black tribes like the Hausa that took slaves in the first place. The Wikipedia tells us about Slave raiding but eagerly ignores Black Guilt. In June 2020, Gordon Klein, a longtime accounting lecturer at UCLA, made the news after a student emailed him asking him to grade black students more leniently in the wake of the “unjust murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.”

Klein’s response was blunt. It stated in part:

Thanks for your suggestion in your email below that I give black students special treatment, given the tragedy in Minnesota. Do you know the names of the classmates that are black? How can I identify them since we’ve been having online classes only? Are there any students that may be of mixed parentage, such as half black-half Asian? What do you suggest I do with respect to them? A full concession or just half? 

He went on:

Remember that MLK famously said that people should not be evaluated based on the “color of their skin.” Do you think that your request would run afoul of MLK’s admonition?

Klein’s response enraged students. They organized a petition to remove him that quickly gained nearly 20,000 signatures, resulting in the professor being placed on leave and banned from campus. But the story got national attention, and a counter-petition signed by more than 76,000 people demanded his reinstatement. In less than three weeks, Klein was allowed to return to the classroom....................

A Radically New Definition of Racism
Some DEI initiatives seem almost designed to create distrust, especially between faculty and students. In an article last year for City Journal, I wrote about the “cultural change initiative” taking place at Mount Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine. When describing their work, the program’s creators asserted that it’s important to accept that “if we are White, we are a big part of the problem. We are part of the reason that structural racism imprisons and oppresses people of color every day, everywhere they go, and no matter what they do.”..........

“The way that institutions collapse is that they become structurally stupid. That means people can no longer object, they have to go along with the orthodoxy.” Haidt said this isn’t an issue just in his field of psychology. “It’s about the biggest problem facing our country—the collapse of our institutions.”

Philosophy Professor Says Don't Go To College   [ 27 March 2023 ]

It is astonishing when a liberal philosophy professor tells people, including his own daughter, not to go to university because they have become “indoctrination mills.”  Many other types of professors can make a living outside universities.  However, there is no real market for specialists in Kant’s transcendental deductions outside the university.  With slight exceptions, philosophers have little choice but to work in universities.  So, when Prof. Boghossian tells his own daughter not to go to university, he must believe that universities have become dangerously unhealthy.  Although Boghossian cites Harvard, Yale and Oberlin as “non-starters”, he says that all universities have been destroyed by “woke” nonsense and should be defunded.  University people, Boghossian says, “live in make-believe land.”

Boghossian was one of the professors who exposed the lack of academic standards in a set of “woke” journals in the 2017-2018 “Grievance Studies affair,” also referred to as the "Sokal Squared" scandal (referring to a similar case in 1996 perpetrated by NYU physics professor Alan Sokal). James Lindsay, Peter Boghossian and Helen Pluckrose, using pseudonyms or borrowed identities, submitted absurd papers to journals in culture, race, gender, fat, and sexuality studies to test the integrity of their editorial peer review process............... Another paper which consisted in a rewriting using feminist jargon of passages from Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf was accepted by leading feminist journal Affilia – which tells one about all one needs to know.
Why pay silly money to go to university to be propagandized by the Lunatic Fringe when you could be learning and earning a living?

What the New, Low Test Scores for 13-Year-Olds Say About U.S. Education Now

The math and reading performance of 13-year-olds in the United States has hit the lowest level in decades, according to test scores released today from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, the gold-standard federal exam. The last time math performance was this low for 13-year-olds was in 1990. In reading, 2004.

Performance has fallen significantly since the 2019-2020 school year, when the coronavirus pandemic wrought havoc on the nation’s education system. But the downward trends reported today began years before the health crisis, raising questions about a decade of disappointing results for American students.

The federal standardized test, known as NAEP, was given last fall, and focused on basic skills. The 13-year-olds scored an average of 256 out of 500 in reading, and 271 out of 500 in math, down from average scores of 260 in reading and 280 in math three years ago.

Achievement declined across lines of race, class and geography. But in math, especially, vulnerable children — including Black, Native American and low-income students — experienced bigger drops.
